Rejuvenation of the Brow and Upper Eyelid Areas
Patients who come to me seeking rejuvenation of the brow and upper eyelid areas are pleased to learn that I can often accomplish this for them under local anesthesia in either my Winnetka or Chicago office. Patients can obtain the benefits of an upper blepharoplasty and brow lift without needing a general anesthetic or even IV sedation. This means that there is no need to skip breakfast or your morning cup of coffee the day of surgery. In fact, we encourage you to take a light meal and maintain good hydration going into the surgery. When you arrive at our office you will take an antibiotic a relaxing medication and a mild pain pill. With this premedication established it is quite easy for me to obtain an excellent and complete block of all the sensory nerves in the area.
I stabilize brow in a proper but not overcorrected position through an incision that runs along a portion of the forehead hairline. Next I make an incision in the natural crease of the upper eyelid and remove the excess fold of superficial skin and muscle that has caused the eyelid to lose it’s definition. There is often a small puff of protruding fat at the area where the upper eyelid meets the nose and I reduce this to it’s proper dimensions. Sometimes I sculpt a little fat from the rest of the eyelid, but I am very careful not to remove too much fat, as this causes a hollow look.
The entire procedure takes between one and a half and three hours. We encourage you to listen to your favorite music and take all steps necessary to make this a relaxing experience.
It may be possible to combine upper eyelid and brow rejuvenation with other facial procedures under local anesthesia . These include facial fat transfer, cheek lift, and peels of the lower eyelid and the area around the mouth.
