At its best facial rejuvenation surgery produces a face that appears soft and refreshed, yet retains its expressive ability. To achieve this I make use of a process including a wide range of treatments, some surgical and some non-surgical. I apply these treatments at different stages of the aging process.
I would like to dispel two myths. The first myth is that surgical and non-surgical techniques are somehow in competition and mutually exclusive. It is silly to suggest that injectable fillers and relaxants will eliminate the need for a face lift. It is equally silly to suggest that once a patient has had a face lift or a brow lift there will no longer be a need for injectable products.
The second myth is that the aging process is somehow arrested after a facelift and that the rejuvenated structures will hold their position forever. I like to tell my patients that I turn back the hands of the clock, but after the surgery the hands begin to move forward again. Every year the structures of the cheek, jaw border, and neck will settle a little and the face will lose some of its youthful fullness. For some patients this is perfectly acceptable, but others will want to maintain an appearance similar to what they experienced a few months after the face lift. I can accomplish this for many patients by carrying out one or several fat transfers in the years following surgery. I can also carry out smaller refresher lifts of the cheek, jaw border, and neck when the time is right. Often it is possible to do these under local anesthesia in the office.
There is also a great value in continuing injectible fillers such as Restylane® and juvederm® and relaxants such as Botox® and dysport®. This helps me to fine tune aspects of facial motion and structure.
The overall result of facial rejuvenation surgery is further enhanced by a high quality program of medical skin care. You can find detailed information on medical skin enhancement on my web site.
